Join Michelle Schafer as she explains the ABCs of Networking.
Networking is about building relationships, and talking to people around you about your job search. You already build relationships every day - whether you speak to someone in line ahead of you in the grocery store, or introduce yourself to a new neighbour, or meet a friend of a friend. Networking for work builds on these same interactions. The vast majority of job openings are never advertised - they are filled by word-of-mouth. This session will help you become a more confident networker - and will help you tap into the "hidden" job market.
In this session, you will learn how to:
- create a list of potential network contacts
- prepare for a networking meeting
- promote your skills/experience and ask effective questions that get you the information you need
- ask for new contacts in order to grow your base
- follow up with impact and appreciation
- keep track of your contacts, their information and outcomes of meetings
